What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)?
Video explaining DBT by Dr. Esme Shaller from UCSF’s adolescent DBT program.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) helps to develop skills to feel more in control of emotions, to be able to ask for help and say no, to be in the moment (even when it’s not a fun moment) and to be able to tolerate a crisis when it happens without creating more of a crisis. These skills help to create a life that you like and one that’s worth living.
DBT therapy is offered in 6 month increments, with a requirement of a 6 month commitment for weekly DBT skills training groups and weekly individual therapy. All of the therapists at PEP are members of PEP’s intensively trained DBT team.
DBT individual and family therapy and DBT group skills training for adults and adolescents follow Dr. Marsha Linehan’s DBT protocols, and are a comprehensive and complete DBT program. DBT is specifically tailored to treat those who have: mood swings or depression, difficulty regulating emotions, low impulse control, have a dual diagnosis or an eating disorder, difficulty interacting with loved ones or co-workers, been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and/or people who have self-injurious or self-harm behaviors.
