Rachel Kelly, MSW, ASW is an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW #82258). Rachel is a warm, authentic and non judgemental therapist who draws from a person centered, strengths based perspective. Rachel has grown up in a family of therapists sparking her passion for mental health and healing at a young age. Rachel has always believed that a positive therapeutic relationship is the core to helping her clients persevere, grow and develop a life worth living.
Rachel grew up in NY and moved to San Diego CA in August of 2019, to enjoy the warm weather and a change in lifestyle. Rachel got her Masters of Social Work at Hunter Silberman School of Social Work in 2016 in Harlem, NYC. She began her program working at a LGBTQ center for teens and their families. She co-facilitated a group for parents of trans teens while also providing individual therapy and crisis intervention. Rachel then gained further experience working with young adults at a college counseling center, working primarily with survivors of sexual violence, shaping her practice to be trauma informed. After receiving her Masters degree, Rachel then worked at the Mental Health Service Corps in NYC where she implemented various new mental health programming in a community based organization that never had mental health services prior. Rachel has also worked leading groups, individual and family therapy in a Drug and Alcohol program helping primarily teenagers who suffer from co- occurring substance use and mental health issues. Rachel has worked with elementary age children providing individual and family counseling on site of two schools, for those suffering with anxiety, depression, trauma related disorders as well as adjustment challenges.
Rachel has received extensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Gender Therapy training during her time at PEP. Rachel has training in several other evidence based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Therapy(SFT), and Behavioral Activation (BA). She is under the clinical supervision of Ann Minnich, LCSW#72839. Rachel provides a safe space to develop a nurturing relationship in order to promote growth, self love, healing and human connection.
