Janelle Pineda, MA, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. Janelle provides comprehensive DBT therapy and therapy that really works at Personal Evolution Psychotherapy (PEP) since she began working at PEP in 2017. She is sensitive to the process of starting therapy and realizes it may be intimidating. She also acknowledges the courage of stepping out of your comfort zone to begin treatment. Janelle wants to help individuals that feel stuck and are ready for change by learning DBT skills that are proven to show results. Janelle is also fluent in Spanish and can provide therapy in Spanish.
She received her master’s degree from Pepperdine University in 2012. She earned her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University. Janelle completed her traineeship and professional development at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego gaining experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to individuals seeking support for their families. She has worked as a mental health therapist on multiple school sites (elementary, middle school, and high school) by helping patients with treatment to treat school- based behaviors that interfere with learning. Janelle also provides mental health services to individuals with severe eating disorders, high-risk behaviors, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays and co-morbid mental illness. She provided services to individuals with various mood disorder, disruptive impulse control and conduct disorders, and other psychotic disorders. At PEP, Janelle specializes in providing comprehensive DBT to teens and adults, families and couples and gender therapy to gender nonconforming, trans and nonbinary teens and adults. Janelle attended the Trans-youth Care training for professionals to provide sensitive and competent mental health for gender nonconforming children, transgender youth, and young adults.
Janelle has completed ongoing training of evidence-based practices: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)- 5 Day Jump Start in DBT and ISITDBT 2017. As well, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) specific to treat Anxiety and Depression, and Trauma Focused (TF CBT). Janelle is also trained in utilizing the practices of AIM High, Family Based Treatment for Eating Disorders- Maudsley-Model, Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) through UCSD. Janelle has also attended trainings for Play Therapy, and High-Risk Assessment.
